This amazing motor display centre is located on Young Street in Albury, NSW. When client Martin Baker of Baker Motors came to architect Teilion Architects he had a strict brief, to create a magnificent car showroom, workshop and office area that was functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. For the design of the showroom, it was to be light-filled and modern, creating a sense of luxury and warmth to showcase the large range of cars they supplied. The brief for the office space was much like the rest of the building. The room needed to contain a series of functional workspaces for all administration staff yet give a sense of space, light and warmth to create an enjoyable work environment for all. Architects from Teilion Architects realised that to create the various spaces the client required, glazing was going to be the best solution. By using large spans of glazing throughout, architects were able to meet the brief of creating a spacious, light-filled environment across the whole project.
Being local aluminium window and door specialists, we were utilised for the extensive glazing job due to the experience and expertise we have in commercial glazing projects. Architects worked closely with client Martin Baker as well as our team at DLG Aluminium & Glazing to come up with solutions for various glazing difficulties the architect was facing. We gladly our experience in aluminium window and door manufacturing to assist the architect with making the best window, door and glazing solutions to complement the project. Heightened glazing was used where the showroom faced the street to ensure maximum exposure of their products from the street.
We also assisted in choosing the correct glazing solution to ensure that whilst maximising space and view from the street, the thermal efficiency of the building was not compromised. The building utilises both double and single glazing which assists with the thermal efficiency of the building throughout. The showroom also showcases the Elevate™ range of aluminium products, including spectacular large panel Series 411 Bi-Fold doors and large panel Series 467 Awning Windows. These two products also allow for maximum street exposure and are aesthetically pleasing with thick sashes.
The glazing in the office space was a difficult task. Whilst the clients longed for a large open space with oversized windows, due to the positioning of the offices and direction of the sun, this requirement was going to mean strong sunlight throughout the office for most of the day. We coupled double glazed windows with Elevate Series 417 LouvreMASTER™ louvres to ensure that too much heat didn’t seep into the offices. Running the louvre system vertically, allowed the louvres to be adjusted on the inside of the building if too much sunlight was entering into the building. The completed project recently won Master Builder North east Division Commerical project $3 to $6 Million award in Albury.
